Selection Tools on the 5 raw images

Hi ALL,

Back on updating the blog for the lesson of Selection Tools used on the 5 raw images. I try to keep it short and easy to understand for everyone of you that reviewing this blog at now.. =)  Let's begin!


At first, i did compiled up all the raw images into an A4-sized sheet as below to show on the effect of before and after editing using the Selection Tools in Photoshop software and the sheet is as below : -

From the raw image, it is important for us to crop the image out before doing any other editing that necessary.. Therefore, what i did is that I used Crop Tool that is on the left hand side of the monitor on the Selection Tools and make a range of the image that I needed. Cropping is also used to cut out all those unneeded image that surrounded the image that needed. 

I then used the function of Move Tool to move the image away from its original position.

At the same time, I also created a new file by choosing New on the File tab and the selection would be 'International Paper' with the size of A4. After that, i can move the image from the original position into the new sheet of paper by just choosing Move Tool and drag the image to the new sheet. 

Then, we can able to enlarge the image on just pulling the image from its edge and fit it as to own preferences. The new image on the new sheet is as below: -

See!! The cloud above the building has been removed away!! =) 


To continue, the same methods be used on the other 4 images (MMU bus, MMU mascot, MMU entrance signboard, and also Faculty of Management signboard)

For this FOM signboard image, as we can see, the main focus that we need is only the signboard itself and not the scenery behind, thus to make our life easier and do selection, I used Crop Tool from the Selection Tools and crop the image that we only need. The result of the cropping will as below.

See that? It's amazing to know what Photoshop can do to our image!Then, as same as the previous image, we got to select the signboard and move it away.

As you can see, the selection also can be made onto the FOM signboard as this is to exclude out the scenery out from the image.



For your info, you can also choose different kinds of tools besides from Magnetic Lasso Tool, as each of them suits to different shape of the image. Let's for an example, if the image is on static and in rectangular shape (FOM signboard, MMU entrance signboard), it would be best if we used Polygonal Lasso Tool.  For the FOM signboard above, I used Polygonal Lasso Tool as the shape of the image needed is barely a straight line of a rectangular. Therefore, Polygonal Lasso Tool is a more appropriate method compared with Magnetic Lasso Tools or Quick Selection Tools. After doing for the all images, we use the Move Tool to move all the 'edited' images into the new sheet of paper and as below: -

 The screenshot above was after the image of the FOM signboard being moved into the new A4-sized sheet. From there, we can enlarge or reduce the size of the image, depending on our preference by holding CRTL + T for the transformation purpose.

and then simply pulls it away for enlarging.

  As you can see, the image of the FOM signboard has been enlarged! Cool isn't it?


Next image will be the MMU entrance signboard. 

Same for this image, Polygonal Lasso Tool is used to 'extract' out the image from the original image.

And now we 'extract' the selected image out from its original position by using Move Tool after Polygonal Lasso Tool. 

And transfer it to the A4-sized sheet same by using Move Tool.

After transferred the image, then we are free to rotate the image or do the sizing. This can be done by just holding CRTL + T button on the keyboard for transformation and when satisfied with the changes, just press Apply Transformation.

The same method also apply to the remaining images of the MMU mascot, and also the MMU bus.

Finally, after editing by using Selection Tools, all images were transferred to the selected new A4-sized sheet and the final result would be like the screenshot below.

1st Lesson - Selection Tools

Inside the Photoshop, there are many kinds of editing that can be done to the image and basically most of it can be found on the selection tools. Selection tool is the place where the author able to use most if not all basic editing skills.

Below are the few things that a selection tools may help:

Images to be opened in the photostop software

File name as "Vegetables_Selection Tools" and the size to be changed to "International Paper" with the size A4.

Use 'Quick Selection Tool' and make dotted line surrounding the tomato and pressed ALT to enlarge the image that fitted under the 'Quick Selection Tool'.

At the same time, duplication of the image can be made by pressing the ALT button and at the same time, moving the image.

The same applied to the plate of bean as there are few ways to create the dotted line surround the plate
a) Use 'Quick Selection Tool'
b) Use 'Elliptical Marquee Tool' and use SHIFT button to enlarge the circle until it fully fit the whole image of the plate.

Duplication also be made to the plate of bean by pressing the button ALT and hold it, while moving the image using mouse. Duplication is made.

The same method applies to the capsicum,cabbage and also the carrot images by use 'Quick Selection Tool' and only making dotted line to the capsicum and carrot, and not to the whole image.

 

Duplication also made for the image of capsicum, cabbage, and also the carrot images also being moved onto the green board.

Same goes to the 'Salad made easy' tag label.

YES!! It's ME!! Welcome to The Theater of Dream @ Digital Media...

Hi, This shall be my very first posting in this "freshly-baked" blog and I hope each and every ONE of YOU is getting ready to enjoy the whole of it.. YUMMY!! 

First of all, (in a much more formal way) I would like to introduce myself as a part of this BiG BiG family of Digital Media. My name is Ivin Tan Su Wei a.k.a Vin Vin and currently I am pursuing Bachelor of Finance with Multimedia and for the Digital Media subject, I am one of the many in BC271B.

Coming more into my barely own introduction, sadly to say that it is very unfortunately that I do not have any background or experience in handling any kind of Photoshop, Flash or Dreamweaver software. It will be very in the kind of amusing feeling when I learnt about that I will be taking Digital Media for this semester, because as much as I concerned, I believe that I have ZERO (0) knowledge about it and I hope to be able to gain a little bit more knowledge regarding with it.

What's more? Okie... I was born on the 2nd of June and I was raised in a small mini town called Teluk Intan in Perak or much more known as The Diamond Bay! My hobbies are sleeping, eating, and traveling, just like any other teenagers. Hahaha.. =)

I guess that is enough for anyone of you that viewing this blog to know me for the surface level and I hope that we can enjoy the class, at the same time, to gain knowledge as well. To all my friends... let's ROCK the class!
