Advanced Layering

This is going to be the learning on the Advanced Layering, which is the last for this assignment, and let's start it.

As usual, I used back the last edited image to further continue to do editing and for this round, it would be editing on the Advanced Layering Techniques.


Last edited image was open together with the layers of the images that I selected to do this Advanced Layering, which are the images of the sun and also clouds. Both images were selected as to enhance my edited image.

Respective layers were labeled for easy reference.

Next, in order to start building a composite image, we can add further images or artwork and then clip it to a shape.

Just to show on how to clip a layer to a shape, I used two images from two different layers to do the clipping. In a very simple step, press ALT while the cursor is in between of the layers until it becomes a double-circle icon, and then click.

After that, I then enable the indicator for the layer visibility so that all layers now are to be seen.

 We can then further enhance the effect of the layering by double clicking on the selected layer.

As the main addition into this image is the cloud, therefore, it would be better if further enhancement in terms of its effect, and to do this, a duplicate of the cloud image by just choosing 'Duplicate Layer' from the right mouse click, and then rename the layer as Cloud2.

 After that, just double clicking on the layer of the Cloud2 to create effects on the cloud.

 To create darker tones, or levels, or to be made transparent can be achieved by just dragging the slider to own preference.

And finally, additional info that needed been key-ed in to the image by using Horizontal Type Tool.

 Meanwhile, further enhancement can be made onto the image through Adjustments tab.

I have selected 'Levels' to adjust the level of shadows onto the image

AND finally, the image finalized as below:

After gone through few steps starting from the Selection Tools up till to Advanced Layering, found out that the Photoshop is able to change so many things to make this life to be more beautiful if not perfect.

Retouching & Enhancing Digital Photographs

Hi All,

For this week, I am going to update on the next topic, which is the retouching.

First of all, this is the final image that was updated from the previous tutorial.

 From here, we will move on to do retouching on the image that were damaged.

Choose Image>Auto Color to remove out the color cast of the image.

Then, we can also adjust the color cast of the image by choosing Color Balance from the adjustment panel.

Now the image got adjusted to have blue color cast.

We are then replacing the color of some of the image in it.

Firstly, we draw onto the image that we wanted to be replaced with color by using Rectangular Marquee tool.

Then, we go to Image>Adjustments>Replace Color to do the changes

The replacement of color can be made by just adjusting the Hue, Saturation and also Lightness on the panel above and when satisfied, just click OK.

Next, we are going to repair the damaged area by using the Stamp Clone tool and the target image will be the MMU signboard. Also used to repair the damaged area are Spot Healing Brush tool and also Dodge tool.

As you can see, the brightness due to the sunlight effect on the original MMU signboard on the right hand side has been repaired as the image above.

Next, we are going to move further to use the special effect from the Healing Brush tool to remove away things that we do not want like the image below.

Can you guys seen the additional part of the tree appeared on the building?

The unwanted thing has been removed away.

Furthermore, we can 'add' some features into the image for retouching purpose to make the image nicer. For this case, I've chosen to have some spark of lightning on the image. To do it, choose Filter>Render>Lens Flare.

When satisfied with changes, press OK and the result as below.

Then, we will continue to further enhance the image and firstly I chose on the Shadow and Highlights. That feature can be found at Image>Adjustments>Shadows/Highlights. We are advised to do all the editing on the copy of the image rather than doing it on the original image. This to enable us to have the original copy for editing if there is anything wrong with the editing at first place.

 From here, we can choose according to our preference on how we wanted it to be, and when satisfied with the changes, just click OK.

Meanwhile, to create some creativity onto the image, we can also adding some 'noise' onto the background of the image. 

To choose Add Noise, we can find it at Filter>Noise>Add Noise. I've chosen Add Noise for this image to clearly show the effect from the feature.

To create a slightly blur effect into the image, I've chosen 20% noise for the image and we can also get the preview of the effect after we ticked the filed of Preview, and when done with it, we can finalize the noise adding by clicking OK.

So, we are done here with the adding of noise and if we do not like the effect of noise, or if the images chosen is already having noise, we can also reduce it by choosing Filter>Noise>Reduce Noise.

When satisfied with the changes, just click OK and reducing noise process will follows as above.

After that, we are going to sharpen the edge of the image.

We able to find it as Filter>Sharpen>Smart Sharpen

And when done, just click OK.

After done with the changes and retouching purpose, the final image was saved and as below.

Assignment 3 - Selection Tools_Pulau Perhentian

Hi ALL,

It is time to update the blog again, and for this round, I will update on the process of Selection Tools for the raw images used for the Assignment 3. As our group chose Pulau Perhentian as our topic, therefore, the images here will more or less representing the island. So let's start it..

At first, what I did in process of editing the images is by open the image on the software of Photoshop by clicking Open from the file tab on the upper left of the screen. 

As for the focus on this image is the fist, then I must crop the image for easier selection which comes afterwards,

From here, I will use the Magnetic Lasso Tool from the Selection Tools to select the image that I wanted and the result will as screenshot below:

At the same time, I also created a new A4-sized file for me to move all the selected images.

I then used the Move Tool from the Selection Tools to move the selected image to the new file by dragging it to the new file.

From here, we can also change the size of the image after moved it onto the new file. Just press CRTL+T for Transformation as we just drag the edge of the box of the image according to our own preference of the size and when done, just press Apply the Transformation.

And then, we can also rename the layer which located on the right hand side of the screen according to the image, and for this case, I named the layer as 'fish' for easy reference in future.

After few steps on the Selection Tools, finally we able to have a so-called complete Selection Tools image of the fish as the screenshot below:

From then, we will move the other image.

For this image, our focus is the 2 people and also the sea. At this time, I used Polygonal Lasso Tool as the shape of the needed image is more to the straight line, therefore Polygonal is a more appropriate to be used, and the result will be as above:

The same also applies to the image as I used Move Tool to drag the selected image to the new file.

We will then move on to the next image.

For the image below, I used Quick Selection Tool to select the image that I wanted, and then used Move Tool to drag it away to the new file, and after moved, same applies to the image as we can press CRTL+T for Transformation to adjust the size of the image, before we apply the transformation.

The result on the new file as screenshot below:

For the remaining images, I also applied the same method as above such as Crop Tool, Quick Selection Tool, Magnetic Lasso Tool, Polygonal Lasso Tool, Move Tool and also Transformation to select and move the selected images to the new file. 

At the end...... after all images were selected and moved to the new file named as "Selection Tools_Assignment 3_Pulau Perhentian", the images that all in an A4-sized file as the screenshot below:

MY DAY WITH DIGITAL MEDIA-ASSIGNMENT 3(IVIN TAN SU WEI 1091106470)

Hello, i would like to share some interesting stories that I have done in my final assignment. This subject provides me knowledge of how to do blog and I can share my ideas here. Besides, I also learnt to mix with others to do my final assignment.

Here is my experience and tasks that I have done last weeks. During the class, we decided to elect a leader to represent all of us in bc271b. So guess what??? We manage to grab our favourite topic which is ISLAND as our title for our final assignment. I love travelling and always wish to travel once I have time. Thus, it is a nice topic for me as I can find more information on it.

As more details, my group decided to choose PULAU PERHENTIAN as our topic to write. I was surprised as I always wish to go to PULAU PERHENTIAN. My group members are very cooperative and we share information to each others about the island in order to make our assignment looks interesting. For the assignment, we named our group as RAINBOW and PULAU PERHENTIAN as our main topic.

Each members of the group has their own responsibility and I was appointed to write about the demographic which is the target users in PULAU PERHENTIAN. Well I did some research on a few website to find some informations about the PULAU PERHENTIAN and the characteristics of the target users before I write my proposal. As a result, I identified a few main target users as below

  

     Target Users

-    First important task is to identify the target users. The ability to identify who is your customer will enable a better planning to ensure attraction of customers can be at the peak. For Pulau Perhentian, we have identified few main target markets which are teenagers, families and couples

     Teenagers

-   Those aged 13-19 years old are considered as teenager. They prefer activities rather than sightseeing. In Pulau Perhentian, many activities such as snorkeling, diving, swimming, jungle-trekking, water sport games, and etc.

-    Moreover, the quiet and calming environment with its nature of Pulau Perhentian is also the perfect idea of those thinking of  taking some days off away from crowded cities, especially the teenagers that majority now living in big cities whether studying or working.

  
      Families

-    Family can be defined as the people of children and also the parents that live in a household.

-    Normally family will be looking for places that are quiet and safe. The whitey beach, together with its crystal clear water is a very good idea for them for a vacation.

-    It is certainly that normally the parents try to find places for their children to enjoy and a method to educate their children as this makes up a perfect combination for Pulau Perhentian which is known as the home for the turtle(prevent this species of turtle from extinct)

-    Good air quality gets the attention of family when choosing places for vacation.

Couples

-    Couples like to travelling around and especially to those romantic places, which is a good signal that Pulau Perhentian is the good choice.

-    Couples or those newlyweds can takes the chance of taking pictures together, or even getting to record video on the charming place at Pulau Perhentian.

Tutorial 2 - Layering Basics

Hi All,

The next tutorial will be on the Layering Basics section, and this is the further step from the Tutorial 1 - Selection Tools, and as usual we need to open the file which contains the 5 images which edited from the Selection Tools :

At the same time, we also created a new file named as 'Layering'

We can also adding some colors into the new file by choosing either solid or gradient color from the selection on the bottom right of the screen. At this case, I chose gradient color with light blue color. At the same time, we can also reduce its opacity to create a lighter color or so-called increase the transparency onto the image.

Can you guys see a more transparent color onto the image?


We will then move to the next step by moving the images edited from the Selection Tools into a new layer.

The image of the MMU bus has been moved to the new file from the 5 images that edited using Selection Tools.

The same also applies to other images, which one by one moved into the new layer. Meanwhile, to illustrate on how layering process being done, and as we can see from above, we are going to move the bus to be on top on the image of the building, and that's when layering play its part. Very simple and easy, all we need to do is just dragging the layer to our own preference, whether to be on top or below of each other. For example, if we need the bus to be on top of the building image, all we need to do is drag the layer for the bus to be on top of the layer for the building.


Meanwhile, we can rename the layers for our own easy reference by just choose Layer Properties and change its title as what we wanted it to be.

Can you see on the right hand side that the arrangement of the layers has switched between Layer 1 and Layer 2? When Layer 1 is on top of Layer 2, then we can move the bus to be on top of the image for building, like below:

Also, we can adjust the size of the image by just pressing CTRL + T for transformation adjustment, and by just pulling the edge of the image.

The same method also applies to the remaining images, and the final image could be in like as below:

We can also adding some descriptions onto the image by choosing from the Horizontal Type Tool from the selection from the left hand side of the screen.

So, when you are satisfied with the artwork and editing, just save the image. =)
